We all hear the stories on the news about the fraud in Social Security Disability and how many people are getting benefits when they aren't actually disabled. Because of this, I've had so many people ask me if it is truly that easy to be on Disability. The answer of course is no.
If you file for Disability and are denied, don't get discouraged. So many people get that letter from Social Security, see that it says denied, and just throw it away. Don't give up! Being denied on your initial application is very, very common and your application is not done.
The best thing to do is appeal the decision. There is no risk or cost to appealing, so it is the logical next move. But remember, in the fine print on your denial letter it says you have only 60 days to appeal their decision so do it right away while it is fresh in your mind. If you do not appeal within the time limit, your application will be tossed out and you will have to start over at the beginning.
