When people hear the term Social Security, most people think of the elderly receiving payments after they retire. Â Even Social Security Disability is often associated with people that aren't extremely young. Â However, this is definitely not the case. Â I have written a blog post in the past discussing that there is generally not a specific age you need to be to receive Disability payments. Â Of course being certain ages has different implications on your Disability claim, but being very young absolutely does not automatically preclude people/children from receiving Disability. Â In fact Social Security essentially has a listing reserved for newborns.
Â
Listing 100.00 covers low birth weight and failure to thrive. Â Many babies are born with low weight or struggle to grow and develop as most children do for a variety of reasons. Â Listing 100.00 goes over the many aspects of a Disability claim of this type. Â They have even posted specific charts that Social Security uses to determine whether a child is disabled due to a low birth weight or a failure to thrive. Â Of course with all cases, it is not as simple as whether the child meets those standards. Â There are many factors that go into determining if someone is eligible for Disability. Â It is important to consult with a Disability lawyer to help sort through these requirements.
